Ein Deutsches Requiem

Voices will be joined by soloists Alexander Hajek, Baritone and Rachel Chong, Soprano, the Alata Harmonia Chorus of Canada and a brass ensemble in a new chamber version of this masterpiece in the choral literature. Johannes Brahms’ setting of his requiem is unlike any other, with the use of German text rather than the traditional Latin. He was probably the youngest composer ever to contemplate writing music that dealt with death. This is a must for choral music lovers!

Christmas Inspiration
Saturday, December 8, 2007

Voices begins a new season with a rare performance of the Christmas Oratorio by Camille Saint-Saens, one of the most serene settings of the nativity story, featuring an overture in the style of Bach. Also, on the program is Cantata No.61 by Johann Sebastian Bach, which was his first attempt in writing in the French style. As part of the choir tradition, the audience will have a chance to join the choir in singing some favourite carols.
